When God Writes the Plot Twist: A Testimony of Faith and Favor
This kind God, oh! I’ve never seen your type! You know how to care for the ones you love!
I woke up this morning with a mission—to go and get the response to a tender I had submitted. Now, let’s be real. I had two solid reasons to believe I might receive a regret letter. But I also had one even greater reason to keep hope alive: God is still on the throne!
With my finances looking like the last drops of tea in a cup after everyone has taken their share, I still clung to God’s promise that my bucket would never run dry. Then, I got a call from the institution I had applied to. Instead of rushing to hear my fate, I took my sweet time before following up because, well, sometimes it’s better not to rush into heartbreak.
Now, here’s why I thought I’d be considered but not awarded the tender. First, I didn’t have enough money to buy a business trading license. Small issue, right? (Big issue actually.) Second, when I attended the tender opening and demonstration, they had already mentally married the candidate before me. It was like a wedding where I showed up fashionably late, and the vows had already been exchanged. They barely gave me five minutes before summarizing my presentation like they were in a hurry to catch a matatu home. If there was a bed in the room, I’m pretty sure they would have tucked themselves in and slept while I spoke.
But still, I had hope. Maybe—just maybe—they would overlook the license issue, which was, of course, a necessity. Maybe, just maybe, God had whispered something in their ears during my presentation (before they drifted off into slumberland). So, in short, they picked someone else. And that’s okay because what someone loses is someone else’s gain. Be grateful always even for the winner, for you are planting a seed that when you win and others lose the too will be grateful. Also a short prayer for the customer who gave you consideration, that they will be sorted out with their specific needs. The tender wasn’t mine because I gave it my best, and it simply wasn’t meant for me.
By the end of the day, I found myself staring at my children, wondering how to break the news to them. They were so used to hearing me win proposals that I wasn’t sure how they would take this loss. But just as I was about to open my mouth and say, “Guys, today we take an L,” God said, “Not so fast!”
A couple of hours later, another company—the one I had pitched to but had gone quiet—called me out of nowhere and awarded me a contract! Just like that, my sad story flipped into a testimony! Instead of wallowing in self-pity over my first-ever proposal rejection, I rejoiced in the fact that God kept His promise—my bucket didn’t run dry!
And just when I thought God had done enough, He did even more! Another client’s project, which was a first-time trial, worked out successfully! Not only did I deliver quality work, but I now have the privilege of claiming my balance as a broker. What started as a step of faith turned into another financial breakthrough!
But let me take you back a little to the waiting period. You see, while waiting for the tender response, I wasn’t just sitting around chewing my fingernails. I was singing songs of praise, day and night. In the shower, in the kitchen, even in my sleep—my spirit was rejoicing! And let me tell you, those songs were not in vain! God was working behind the scenes, setting up my miracle even when I couldn’t see it!
What I remember asking the Lord in prayer was simple yet urgent: “Lord, I need to pay my monthly car loan, and my children’s school fees are due.”
Then, God did something incredible. I called a client whose work I had done a while ago, just to check in. To my amazement, she confirmed that she had already requested the school to pay my children’s school fees using the amount she owed me! Just like that, my prayer was answered!
This experience has taught me one thing: Let us truly ask God for what we need and trust that He will fulfil it as we play our part. Faith without action is dead and so is worrying without praying! God, I thank You. I need You. I love You. May my story draw many to You, that they may also become living testimonies!
