WHO IS YOUR SOURCE?

There’s a question that has been sitting quietly in my heart:

Who is your source?

Not who helps you sometimes.
Not who you expect to come through.
But your true source.

There was a season in my life when things were tight.

Not “I’ll manage” tight—no. The kind where you open your cupboard slowly, hoping something has magically appeared since the last time you checked… like maybe food respects persistence.

It doesn’t.

Now, my sister and I went to the same church. Same sermons. Same prayers. Same declarations that “God will provide.”

So naturally, I thought, “Help is not far.”

I reached out to her.

“Do you have something I can use?”

She said she didn’t.

Simple. Straight. No drama.

And I believed her.

Then the church asked people to bring food for the mercy basket.

And my sister showed up—with food. Not just something small. Enough to even go shopping for it.

And I remember pausing—not in anger, just confusion:

“Wait… are we not in the same family? Am I not part of the ‘those in need’ category?”

But I didn’t argue. I didn’t push.

I just went to church… and asked for help.

And they gave. Quietly. Freely. Without questions.

So I turned to God.

“Lord, help me. You are my source.”

Now here’s where God does what only He can do.

That same day—the very same day—the sermon felt like it had been written just for me.

The pastor spoke about two situations:

One man complaining that his brother was not helping him.

Another man focused on expanding his storage—planning bigger barns.

And then he said something that landed deep:

“We should not be looking at how to expand storage, but how to help each other.”

I sat there thinking… this is my life right now.

Not in a blaming way—but in a revealing way.

And in that moment, I turned the question inward:

“Have I been looking to people… instead of looking to God?”

Because if I’m honest, part of me had quietly made people my source.

And then—this is the part that still makes me smile.

That same day. Not the next week. Not later.

That same day.

My sister asked me:

“Do you have food?”

And I told her the truth.

“I’ve been going to church to get food from the mercy basket.”

And then she said:

“Why don’t I just give you what I’ve been bringing to church instead?”

And in my head I was like… “Duh.”

But I also understood something deeper.

It hadn’t clicked for her before.

Not because she didn’t care.
Not because she was ignoring me.

But because sometimes… we are all doing good—just not always where it’s needed most.

And God, in His perfect timing, aligns everything.

That day, God did three things:

  • He provided for me
  • He reminded her
  • And He corrected my perspective

Because this was never about my sister.

She had her own challenges. Her own responsibilities.

This was about source.

Sometimes we are like the man complaining:

“Why isn’t my brother helping me?”

Other times, we are like the one building bigger barns:

“Let me store more for myself.”

But rarely do we stop and ask:

“Lord, what are You teaching me?”

And this is what I learned:

God is the source.

People are vessels. Channels. Instruments.

But the source?

That is God.

Because if you make people your source:

  • You will be disappointed
  • You will question relationships
  • You will feel forgotten

But when God is your source:

  • Even when people delay, provision comes
  • Even when it doesn’t make sense, things align
  • Even when no one sees you… He does

So this is not a story of blame.

It’s a story of alignment.

A reminder.

A quiet correction from God.

Go back to your source.

Not your connections.
Not your expectations.
Not even your closest people.

Go back to God.

Because sometimes, the help you are looking for is already arranged…

You just need to look to the right place.

And sometimes—just sometimes—

God will wait until you look to Him first…

Before He uses the very same people you were looking at.
