Think about what you think about

Verdic was a typical teenager, full of big dreams and hopes for the future. He loved spending time with his friends, scrolling through social media, and thinking about what he wanted to achieve. But over time, he started feeling pressured by what he saw online—people living perfect lives, always looking successful. He began comparing himself, thinking, “I’m not good enough.”

Soon, those negative thoughts took over. Instead of focusing on his goals, Verdic became consumed with self-doubt and jealousy. He felt like he’d never measure up. James 1:15 says, “Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.” Verdic’s bad thoughts began to affect his attitude, making him frustrated and angry at others, and he started to push people away.

One day, his youth leader shared a powerful verse from Philippians 4:8: “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—think about such things.” It hit Verdic hard. He realized his mind had been filled with everything negative and worldly, instead of focusing on things that bring peace and joy.

The leader also reminded him of Romans 12:2: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Verdic understood that the way he thought had to change. He needed to fill his mind with God’s truth, not the lies he had been believing.

Verdic started spending time in prayer, reading his Bible, and thinking about God’s promises for his life. As he changed his focus, his mood improved, and he started feeling more hopeful. He learned that what you think about shapes your life, and to live fully, you need to keep your mind on things from above, where real peace comes from.
