Live in the season and enjoy its fruits
People have often called me cheap just because I have a knack for buying what’s cheapest at the market. But let me clarify – it’s not that I’m cheap; I’m just in sync with nature’s seasons. See, God designed meals to be eaten for reasons and seasons. So, when I find tomatoes selling at Kshs. 50/- per kilo from every vendor, it’s not just a coincidence – it’s tomato season! They’ve bloomed in abundance and are practically begging to be thrown into every dish. And who am I to refuse? I’m making tomato salads, tomato soup, tomato sandwiches – if it has the word tomato in it, I’m there.
I may even preserve a few for a rainy day because, let’s face it, this is their moment to shine. Same goes for mangoes – in season, they’re heavenly; out of season, they taste like they were rushed out of bed too early by some gadget.
So, while some call me cheap, I prefer the term “seasonal connoisseur.” I’m simply enjoying the bounty of the land at a bargain, and with the money I save, I can invest for future generations. Next up, coconut season! And who knows what glorious coconut-inspired wonders that will bring?
Life’s a whole lot more fun when you understand the seasons and know how to savor them fully!
