Do not be deceived, I AM is I AM

When you go to the hospital, you’re called a patient. When you’re in primary school, you’re called a student. Complete your doctorate, and now you’re called Doctor. Your mother calls you her child, while your brother sees you as a sibling. You’re one person with different titles depending on the role you’re playing, right? So why is it difficult to understand that God can be the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit?

Think about it—God created everything, so His nature is beyond what we fully comprehend. Just like you can juggle different roles in your life, God can exist in these three distinct but unified forms. As the Father, He created the universe. As the Son, He came to earth to save us. As the Holy Spirit, He’s with us every day, guiding and empowering us.

Approaching each of these roles requires understanding their unique jurisdictions. For example, when you approach God the Father, you come in reverence to the Creator of all things, the ultimate authority. When you address the Son, Jesus Christ, you are coming to the one who died for you, the mediator between man and God. With the Holy Spirit, you seek wisdom, guidance, and strength, because the Spirit walks with us daily, teaching and comforting us.

Here’s a story that might help clarify: A man once tried to pay the school fees of a student he wanted to help. But the school refused to accept the payment because the man had no authority over the student. The school would have gladly taken the money, but unless the parent, who had the legal and rightful authority, gave permission, the school couldn’t recognize the man. He was a stranger to the system.

In the same way, while God is accessible to all of us, He has established an order. You can’t just come to God any way you want, bypassing the Son or ignoring the Holy Spirit. The Father has authority, but He has given jurisdiction to the Son for our salvation, and to the Holy Spirit for our daily walk. Just like in the story, if you want access to the Father, you need to go through the right channels—Jesus, who has authority, and the Holy Spirit, who guides us.

It’s like water—whether it’s liquid, ice, or steam, it’s all still H2O, just fulfilling different roles. In the same way, God is still God, whether He is the Father, the Son, or the Holy Spirit. Understanding and approaching Him in His various forms depends on the role He plays in our lives.

So, next time someone struggles with the Trinity, remind them: Just as they wouldn’t bypass a parent to pay school fees, they can’t bypass the Son or the Holy Spirit to approach the Father. God’s order is perfect, and each of His roles is crucial to our relationship with Him.
